Practical Skills For Personal Protection
This course is designed for individuals seeking practical skills and knowledge for personal protection with a handgun. Students will learn fundamental defensive shooting techniques, situational awareness, and safe firearm handling. The curriculum emphasizes decision-making under stress, proper stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, and reloading drills.
Through a combination of individual instruction and live-fire exercises, participants will develop confidence and competence in handling real-world defensive scenarios. By the end of the course, students will understand how to safely and effectively employ a handgun for self-defense while adhering to legal and ethical considerations.

Permit & Firearm
- Valid NY State pistol permit required
- Bring your own firearm and ammunition
- Allowed calibers: .380, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP
- Revolvers considered case-by-case — .38 special only
- No .22 or magnum calibers

- 250 rounds of ammunition
- Belt-mounted holster — must allow one-hand draw and re-holster
- Three magazines
- Belt-mounted double magazine pouch

- Wraparound eyewear — polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering Rx
- Earmuffs or earplugs
- Long pants and fully enclosed footwear
- Baseball-style cap with a bill recommended
- No V-neck shirts
